Lake Bell’s trendy Clinton Hill townhouse finds a buyer
Less than a month after director/actress/screenwriter Lake Bell chopped the price of her trendy, historic Clinton Hill townhouse to $2.3 million, she’s found a buyer for it, reports the Post. She and her hubby, tattoo artist to the stars Scott Campbell, bought the home at 119 Vanderbilt Avenue in 2013 for $1.55 million, subsequently embarking on creative renovation that preserved historic elements such as four marble-mantled wood-burning fireplaces, tin ceilings, tons of exposed brick, wood-beamed ceilings, detailed moldings, and hand-nailed wide plank floors.
The four-story home was built around 1850 and is part of the quaint, three-block Wallabout Historic District. The parlor floor holds the lovely living room with an original design overlay on the hardwood floors. The adjacent dining room opens to a gourmet kitchen that boasts industrial touches like two oversized light fixtures, a giant soap stone stink, rustic wood cabinetry, brass hardware, and a butcher block island with copper siding.
Accessed via a dramatic curved staircase, the master suite is on the second floor and has a walk-in closet the size of a small room and a newly tiled en-suite bath with a vintage-style claw-foot tub and a stone sink.
On the top floor is the loft-style atelier that’s super bright thanks to two skylights and 12-foot, vaulted ceilings. Thought it’s currently set up as a bedroom, the home is a legal two-family, so this could serve as a separate apartment, and it even has another kitchen.
The private garden is accessible from both the parlor and garden floors and comes complete with an outdoor wood-burning fireplace, a swing hanging from the 100-year-old Mulberry tree, hand-laid stone wall, and a stone waterfall.
There are two more bedrooms on the garden level, which has more exposed brick and ceiling beams.
Bell originally listed the house in July 2016 for $3 million (double what she paid for it), but first chopped the price in November to $2.55 million. Now that she and Campbell are expecting their second child (their daughter Nova is two), they’re relocating to L.A. There’s no word yet on who went into contract on the house or the final closing price.
