Historic Home Upgraded by High-End Furniture Designer Asks $2.995M in Bed-Stuy

588 Madison Street is a French Neo-Grec brownstone built in 1889 by the architect William Godfrey. While the single-family, Bed-Stuy home is steeped in history, a recent owner has brought it stylishly into modern day. The owner/developer, a principle at the design firm KGBL, specializes in designing high-end furniture. Here, they played off the existing historic details to add some unique, modern touches. And the mashup of historic and modern is asking nearly $3 million.

The four-story home is configured as a single family. Like most brownstones, the parlor floor is the most impressive. You enter and are greeted by the original pier mirror, handmade oak pocket doors and the long attenuated windows commonly placed at the front of the parlor. A new kitchen was built on this level with custom walnut cabinets and a walnut butcher block that sits on top of the kitchen island. Right off the kitchen is a lovely, bright entertainment room with French doors, which lead you to the rear deck and yard.

The second floor is the dedicated master suite, which has its own private terrace that overlooks the garden. There’s also a fancy marble bathroom with a tub, shower, vanity, and two separate linen cabinets, not to mention a large walk-in closet that opens up into a sitting room.

The top level of the home holds two more bedrooms, each with their own walk-in closets. There’s also a laundry closet and a skylit bathroom up here.

The outdoor spaces are just lovely: there’s the private terrace off the master suite, then the backyard deck and garden. Both nice places to sit and soak in all the lovely townhouse goodness this property is offering up.
