$5K/Month Carroll Gardens Duplex in a Former Wine Cellar Has Plenty of Personality
In a rented apartment, visitors and friends won’t necessarily hold you responsible for any infrastructure eccentricity–that’s part of the ease of signing a lease. The problem is, it’s often difficult to find a rental with any personailty. There’s no floor plan available for this quirky Carroll Gardens garden duplex at 78 Douglass Street, but it certainly looks like there’s a fair amount of space, and even if not, you’ve got two floors to call home. As is often the case with pre-war row house apartments, there do seem to be “plenty of unique features,” as the listing says.
This garden-level duplex with exclusive use of the rear garden could be quite a find with barbecue season right around the corner. Even if the weather’s not cooperating, a 20-foot-wide kitchen with exposed brick flooring below and rustic wooden beams above looks like it could handle just about any party. The apartment gets lots of sunlight and has refinished mahogany wood floors throughout.
The two (ish) bedroom pad has a large bedroom on the upper level, with a walk-in closet. Downstairs you also get a “rec room currently being used as a guest bedroom and game room.”
The best thing about the lower level of this duplex is that it opens onto your own private brick-paved, 1,000-square-foot garden. Evidence shows it’s good for grilling, and at the back of the garden is a built-in bar for outdoor entertaining without fear of the odd messy meal or destructive guest.
These cozy rooms were once a wine cellar; looking at the exposed brick floors and arches, we’d believe it. The neighborhood is in high demand, with Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods Market and the area’s top restaurants all a short walk away, and the block is picture postcard south Brooklyn.
