1846 Townhouse Featured on the Brooklyn Heights House Tour Asks $4.95 Million

This picture-perfect Brooklyn Heights townhouse, at 2 Sidney Place, has been around since 1846 but is still in great shape. Since then, it’s gone through a major remodel and modernization although it retains six of its fireplace mantels, all of which add an elegant and historic touch. The landmarked townhouse, in fact, is impressive enough to be featured on the popular Brooklyn Heights House Tour. But now the question is if it’ll impress a buyer enough to bring in nearly $5 million.

You don’t think of the sides of townhouses as being impressive, but this one really looks good. The corner property allows natural light from three different exposures. And as you can see in this exterior shot, there’s room for a terrace off the back of the third floor.

Because the entrance is on the side of the house, you don’t get the typical townhouse layout. Upon walking into a central foyer, you have a living room on one side and a kitchen on the other.

A gracefully curving central staircase leads to the upper floors, which hold three bedrooms, several offices, even another kitchen on the third floor.

This extra office space is actually located on the lower level, below the entry floor.

One of the beautiful marble fireplaces is located in one of the bedrooms, which is also boasting lots of exposed brick.

On the top floors, a lofted study space was built out in the renovation, in which the top floor is open to a cozy nook down below. The lofty floorplan is definitely a departure from a typical townhouse layout, but it adds a nice modern touch, creating a grand upper floor space.
