Rent Governor Cuomo’s Former Douglaston Manor for $6,000/Month
Last year, Governor Cuomo’s former mansion in the suburban waterfront enclave of Douglaston, Queens hit the market looking like something straight out of the Great Gatsby. Cuomo lived in the sprawling home with his ex wife Kerry Kennedy, but sold it in 1993, when he joined the Clinton administration.
It’s a six-bedroom, Mediterranean-style manor that was constructed in the 1920s and was asking $2.7 million. In January, the home sold for a cool $2.4 million. And the new buyers have listed it for rent, asking $6,000 a month. In Manhattan, $6,000 a month could definitely get you a nice apartment, but it couldn’t get you a mansion and outdoor space this impressive. It’s enough to lure a person way out to Douglaston.
The grand entrance into the home is distinguished by a wide central staircase framed by wood panelling. The living room, too, has tons of wonderful wood details, including built-in cabinetry. And if you think that staircase is impressive, just check out that massive brick fireplace, which nearly takes up the entire wall.
The sunny, bright kitchen has a cute breakfast nook as well as an extra seating area.
And then, of course, there’s a formal dining room. You’ve got nothing but space in this house!
The entire home is decked out with windows, but we especially love these historic arched windows that line one side of the home. (Check out the stained glass details, too.) The windows even come with a little seating nook so you have a comfortable spot to gaze outside and enjoy the sunshine.
Theres are plenty of bright, cozy nooks throughout the house. This wood-paneled sun room and balcony off the second floor looks straight out onto treetops—gorgeous!
There are a total of four bedrooms, on the upper floors, as well as four-and-a-half bathrooms.
As lovely as the interior is, the exterior isn’t too shabby either. There’s plenty of greenery surrounding the home and there’s a great flow between indoor and outdoor space here. We especially like the slate patio, right off the house, that is surrounded by plantings and even a pergola. Impressed yet?
