Pretty Pink Co-op Asking $435K Has Pre-War Potential
Though we so often hear that an eye for interiors–or a good decorator–can make even the smallest apartment feel like a gracious home, we love to see real-life examples that aren’t in magazines shot by highly-paid photographers. This slender Upper East Side one-bedroom co-op at 330 East 94th Street with a relatively manageable $435,000 price tag is an inspiring example. In addition to the fact that with ownership comes the right (co-op board willing of course) to transform the space with any number of clever solutions, it would take far less to create a charming pied-a-terre, for example, without that level of effort or expense.
The apartment is on the second floor of a “classic townhouse building,” off the street, but without the long-haul stair climb. Though it’s easy to open up a living space with modern and minimal style, a lush, traditional look that employs rich textiles and colors and elegant accents is refreshing to see, especially in a pre-war apartment.
Lipstick red walls, velvet and crystal accents give this railroad-style pad a feminine feel, but we could see a more “masculine” interior here, as well as many of the ideas suggested by interiors pro Michael Herold in our Apartment Living 101 series. High ceilings and other pre-war details make a good frame for any personal style statements.
A “large” (it does get points for being somewhere other than in the living room) renovated and windowed kitchen offers a washer/dryer and what looks to be a vented range.
A good-sized bedroom with a large closet has the same pretty details like high ceilings and plaster moulding. Though it’s in bustling Yorkville, the listing says it’s a quiet spot. The pet-friendly building offers a resident super and the added bonus of a low maintenance fee.
In this classic residential neighborhood, you’re only a couple of blocks from the 6 subway stop (and the Second Avenue line promises to bring a new level of convenience to the area), a block from the East River with its bike and walking path and ferry landing; and, of course, you’re within walking distance to Central Park a few avenues away.
