A Modern Reno Inside This Modest Clinton Hill Townhouse, Asking $1.8 Million

This Clinton Hill townhouse is looking to stand out— it even has its very own website. Although it’s got a modest, albeit historic, three-story facade, a renovation has left its imprint on seemingly every room of the house. The floorplan has been opened up, the staircase rebuilt, and the fixtures replaced by materials imported from Italy. Pretty much everything has a modern touch while the exterior remains well preserved. If you’re a townhouse purist it may not be your cup of tea, but you’ll have to admit it’s unique. It’s currently on the market with a price tag of $1.795 million.

Here’s a look at the facade. You can track the rapid growth of the Brooklyn real estate market by looking at the previous asking prices for this property: in 2011 it was asking $995,000; in 2012 it was $1.125 million; in 2014 it was $1.65 million and finally it raised to $1.795 million.

The house is configured as an owners’ duplex with a rental unit downstairs. The open living and dining room, as well as the kitchen, is located on the extra-long, 57-foot ground floor. There’s a lot of light wood exposure happening on this floor, as you can see in the photo above.

The light wood flooring carries into the kitchen, situated in the middle of the ground floor. There’s no denying what makes this room stand out—talk about a ton of red! Even the breakfast bar stools match the cabinetry.

An open staircase connects the three floors. It’s accented by exposed brick (an original feature of the home) and a metal screen (a new addition, of course).

Even the bathrooms manage to look unique. Really, we don’t think there’s a room in this house that didn’t get some sort of special touch. So is it too much or just the right amount of distinction? That’s the question that only the real estate market can answer.
