One Bedroom Co-op at the Beekman Hill House Is the Ideal Starter Apartment
Ah, the New York starter apartment. First-time buyers who don’t have millions to spend are always on the lookout for the perfect one–something relatively affordable, charming, and not too small. This can especially be a challenge when buyers have prioritized a central Manhattan location. But among the sea of multi-million dollar condos, there’s still a decent selection of more affordable one-bedroom co-ops throughout Manhattan, usually in larger prewar buildings. This particular apartment is located at the Beekman Hill House co-op, a 64-unit building built in 1930 at 425 East 51st Street. It’s a decently-sized one bedroom with colorful charm, and it was just listed for $725,000.
The unit comes with a pretty straightforward layout: you walk into a spacious foyer into an open living and dining room. There’s a galley kitchen off the living room, and then a bathroom and bedroom off of that. The listing calls the interior the “perfect mix of classic elegance and modern charm.” There are some nice details throughout, like hardwood floors and high beamed ceilings.
The listing also notes that the kitchen was recently renovated and it looks quite nice with plenty of cabinets, stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. There are closets and custom built-ins around the apartment to maximize storage space as well.
A look inside the bathroom, also recently renovated by the seller. We’re digging the white tile paired with gold details.
And here’s the spacious master bedroom. This is what makes for a good starter apartment: enough room to feel comfortable, but not so much space (or fancy finishes) that the price tag surpasses $1 million.
The co-op building comes with a few nice perks, including a part-time doorman, live-in super, storage, laundry and courtyard. It’s also good for the buyer who wants to be in Manhattan: located at the eastern end of Midtown, it isn’t a bad walk to hubs like Grand Central or Rock Center.
