Union Square Bachelor Pad With Indian Decor Has Its Very Own Coffee Bar
Getting settled in Manhattan can be challenging, but with help from the designers at Peti Lau Inc. this bachelor from Bangalore, India created a place to call home with an epic interior inspired by his love for travel, all things vintage, and coffee. Located in Union Square, this 1,800-square-foot one-bedroom apartment boasts a variety of noteworthy design details, including a cafe-inspired kitchen and tchotchkes and rugs gathered from the owner’s trips to Africa, Morocco and India.
One of the designers’ greatest challenges when approaching this interior was adding warmth to the space, as it has an open floor plan and high ceilings. As a solution, the firm used the owner’s many textured rugs to personalize the space and delineate zones for specific purposes. The living room sets the stage for the spaces surrounding it, and a beautiful ornate rug is paired with a modern leather couch and entertainment center.
Above the television and entertainment center is a cozy nook with beautiful hardwood built-ins and warm ambient lighting. The space is squat, so you would definitely need to crawl on hands and knees, but it’s a delightful detail nonetheless.
Adjacent to the living room is another area clearly designated for rest and relaxation. This meditation and yoga alcove features a luxurious swing made of organic materials and the homeowner’s statue collection of Hindu deities.
The elegant kitchen is again a thoughtful combination of styles and textures. The room includes a wood slab table with an industrial base and raw wood bench. But the main event of this open kitchen and dining room is the bistro-style coffee bar at the back of the space designed to satisfy the owner’s love for java.
The bedroom is a balanced combination of rich neutral tones and soft textures. The wall behind the bed is covered in an oatmeal textile and the carpet is a ivory fur like material.
Not only did Peti Lau Inc. create a beautiful space for this bachelor to live in, they also used his own belongings and interests to piece together a personal narrative through design. To see more work from this impressive team check out their website here.
