Noho Apartment Boasts Vintage Detailing and Doubles as a Performance Venue
New York City is known for its multi-functional spaces, but seeing how the concept is incorporated into homes on an individual basis is always an exciting venture, and this transitional space in Noho is no exception. Designed by Wettling Architects, the very cool apartment was renovated to be both a home and a gathering hall for performances and benefits. Plus, it’s full of vintage accessories reminiscent of an an old school New York many of us have only seen on TV, an interesting fact considering it was once home to “Law & Order: SVU” star B.D. Wong.
The apartment is a collection of old and new, chock full of charming architectural details that bring us back to the New York City of the 1950s and 60s. Vintage office doors line the hallway complete with their original signage and door hardware, and an old wooden church pew lines the hallway leading from the kitchen to the living room.
The hallway’s funky decor includes a Devo-esque orange lamp and lime green walls. The adjacent stairwell is painted purple and adorned with an upcycled steel door and staircase, vintage mirror, and black and white photography. The lime green from the entry way is carried through to the kitchen.
The bathroom defines eclectic elegance. Its vanity boasts ornate dark wood cabinet doors and a bright orange sink interior. The black gothic chandelier hanging in the center of the room is offset by baby blue tile walls.
The images from this apartment leave us wanting more, so we can only hope to be invited to the next performance. For now we can browse more projects from the talented folks at Wettling Architects on their website.
