This Park Slope Rental, Asking $8,750 a Month, Tries to Nail the Loft Look
This Park Slope townhouse at 362A 14th Street is less Brooklyn brownstone and more downtown Manhattan loft. That’s because the whole building has undergone a total renovation, modernizing the fixtures and revealing those exposed bricks and ceiling beams. The property hit the market way back in 2011, asking $2.1 million, sold later that year for $2 million, and is now trying its hand on the rental market asking $8,750 a month.
The townhouse was constructed in 1899 and the more recent renovation did not strip it of all its historic details. Features like mahogany doors and the original wide plank pine floors were restored. But in the living room, a modern lofty feel dominates, with high ceilings, exposed ceiling beams, exposed brick and a modern wood-burning fireplace.
A lot of those interior details carry over to the kitchen, which has been totally updated. According to the listing, you’re getting high-end appliances, white stone countertops and a large center island. We like the combination of the wooden cabinets against the exposed brick and the sleek white countertops. Custom lighting has been installed inside the ceiling beams.
One interesting feature of the renovation? What looks like a bathroom sink that’s been placed out in the upstairs hallway.
The bathrooms, too, have been modernized, each one playing with the combination of Italian porcelain, wood, concrete, steel and brick.
There are four bedrooms total, and those upstairs have maximized the exposed brick look.
And here’s the lower-level guest suite, which is actually showing off exposed stone. There are also polished concrete floors, an ensuite bath and a patio door leading to a private terrace.
The backyard really is lovely, and is a big perk of a townhouse that you wouldn’t get with a loft apartment. The bluestone and wood deck looks like it was designed specifically for a party. And if a renter is seeking greener space, the house is only two blocks away from Prospect Park.
