Brooklyn Brownstone by McGrath II Shines With Subtle Color Palettes and Curated Accessories
The mother-daughter design team that makes up McGrath II recently renovated this beautiful Brooklyn brownstone. Their eclectic but elegant aesthetic combines traditional furnishings with contemporary style, resulting in a whole that’s definitely greater than its parts. Not only is their ability to curate refined yet surprising design accessories apparent in all of their projects, their talent for selecting subtle colors outlined by bold, bright accents is also always worth another look.
A parlor doors open up to the stairwell and front entry located across from the living room’s regal fireplace. The foyer is decorated with an antique black Windsor bench and small crystal chandelier.
The back parlor is a romantic mix of the blue, red, and burnt orange shades from the living room, but the darker tones used in this space create a more intimate mood. The light grey walls and subtle patterns found in the carpet and accent pillows keep the room light. It also features floor-to-ceiling built-ins and a bold black marble fireplace.
A great example of traditional kitchen design, this space accomplishes a serious amount of style, especially considering the very limited color palette of brown, gray and white.
The blue and red shades are repeated again in the dining room, and a grand vintage dining table dominates the main floor.
The home also includes surprising small areas located on the outskirts of each main space designated for relaxing. Each area tells its own story and acts as a supporting character in the overall room design.
The bedrooms maintain more softness than the front parlor and dining room. Each bed features upholstered headboards, and circular wall sconces.
