Bay Ridge Home with ‘Architectural Drama’ Asks an Absurd $4.58M
The quiet old-school neighborhood of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn is filled with grand and storied homes, from the elegant to the eclectic and, more than occasionally, the awkward. Overlooking the Brooklyn shore of the New York Harbor’s Upper Bay, Shore Road is an architectural mashup of eras and styles, with everything from Deco-esque apartment buildings both plain and fancy to more than its fair share of large and luxurious dwellings that trade for equally luxurious sums.
A $4,580,000 ask breathes some rarified air even in this crazy market, but the house itself fits well within a certain mid- to late-Bay Ridge-style, perhaps best described as an early ’90s interpretation of a Catskills resort contained within a suburban home. This wouldn’t be the first of its kind on Shore Road to command upwards of $4 million; while it’s not the All Marble Everything house, which sold for the tidy sum of $4.4M in April, the house at 7529 Shore Road has charms of its own. The listing promises, “all the architectural drama you can imagine, yet warm and intimate feeling.” And there’s a wall-length aquarium.
“Proudly offered for the first time at $4,580,000,” this 6,400 square-foot five-bedroom, five-bath home with a private drive and attached three-car-garage was apparently “newly rebuilt in 2007, ” when “no expense was spared” in creating a “masterpiece of hardwoods, marble and custom glass luxury,” plus useful modern perks like electric custom window treatments, radiant heated floors and central air.
“You will feel like royalty whenever you descend the magnificent marble and curved-glass grand staircase.”
Wall-length aquarium: Check. It’s wood-paneled, and it’s here in the formal living room.
Here also is a wall-length-aquarium-like window. There’s a fireplace (and a fireplace-length TV), too. With the marble floor, you get earth, air, fire and water all in one special room. Also, leather.
Regal dining room, seating for twelve. Check.
In the kitchen, we’re asked to “imagine all the cooking gadgets you’d ever need at your fingertips,” in addition to maple wood cabinets, granite countertops and top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, including a double wall oven.
Five bedrooms (including two suites and three full baths) can be found on the second floor, according to the listing, which provides no floorplan.
The baths are “Filled with warmth,” including a steam shower and jetted tub–and a private balcony.
The lower level is where all the fun happens. “Relax with a drink, enjoy a movie or continue to the game room for a round of ping pong. For the more energetic times of the day, this level affords the owner a full workout area.” There’s also a full bath, laundry and access to the yard.
Remember your gym in the ’90s?
Avid art collectors welcome.
The rear patio looks quite lovely, and who doesn’t love a (36-foot-by-16-foot, heated, drive-up) pool? You can “enjoy your luxurious resort-like grounds…scatter lounge chairs on the sprawling patio and relax!” in this “haven of tranquility and beauty.”
And of course, here by the shore, the open views of Shore Parkway New York Harbor….
Open views of New York Harbor are truly peerless.
