This Fort Greene Townhouse Looks All Grown Up, but Quirky Details Just for Kids Abound
We know New Yorkers love to spoil their kids, but this incredible renovation of a Fort Greene townhouse by Leone Design Studio takes things to a whole new level. As stunning and sophisticated a space as you’d expect when walking into a historic Brooklyn townhouse, this home also boasts tons of details dedicated to its pint-sized residents.
Enter the home and be met with a grand wood staircase and plenty of built-ins and hooks ready to be stuffed and adorned with everything from coats and rubber rain boots. In addition to bringing order to an area that often finds itself over-cluttered, the shelves cleverly provide a nice alcove seating area.
Leone was careful to keep the home’s original details in tact. From the original wood floors to the moulding to the stunning marble fireplaces, this home is steeped in history. Large windows and a neutral color palette help keep the home feeling bright, airy and modern, as does a verdant scene just outside.
The kitchen has been outfitted with a first-class range and custom cabinetry built from oak and steel add texture to the room which also features a fireplace and white-washed brick walls.
But Leone’s creativity really shines in the child’s bedroom which has funky nautical details all throughout. Hooks, lines and a swing descend from the ceiling and there’s even a cool metal porthole that looks into the bathroom right next door.
Although that latter detail may seem odd, it adds a bit more imagination to the room and natural light to the space which is located at back of the house on the garden level.
