Film Critic Jonathan Baumbach Sells Prospect Park South Victorian for $1.8M
Film critic and novelist Jonathan Baumbach (you may know his son, film maker Noah Baumbach, or his first wife, Village Voice critic Georgia Brown) and his wife have sold their historic Prospect Park South Victorian home for $1.8 million, according to city records released today. Built in 1901, the five-bedroom property originally hit the market back in September 2014 for $2.27 million, but decreased its price twice in just five short months.
The beautifully preserved residence has all of its original period details, including oak paneling, original plaster walls with dentil moldings, three sets of working pocket doors, plenty of built-ins, and breathtaking stained glass windows.
The striking center hall boasts gorgeously refinished parquet floors, a lovely tray ceiling, and classic columns. In the dining room you’ll find a wood-coffered ceiling and a distinctive built-in lead glass cabinet.
The kitchen may need some updating, but in the meantime it pleasantly reminds us of Don and Betty Draper’s Mad Men kitchen. It offers a large bay window, butler’s pantry, and back stairs.
On the second floor, the front master bedroom spans the entire width of the house. There’s also two additional bedrooms, a full bathroom and a plant room. The third floor has three more bedrooms and a charming old-warm bathroom with a claw-foot tub and pedestal sink.
Thanks to the backyard, front porch, and two-car garage, this house offers the best in quintessential suburban-esque living. The lucky new owners are Eugene (a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch), and Elizabeth Avila.
