Park Slope Townhouse Boasts Its Very Own ‘Red Room’ for $3.8M
Did we get your attention? With the upcoming release of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, a wider audience will no doubt become familiar with Christian Grey’s infamous “red room”. But we’re guessing a very different kind of decadence is likely to be served up in the partially red (okay, it was a bit of a stretch) and very proper formal dining room located on the parlor level of this neo-Italian Renaissance limestone townhouse at 593 3rd Street in Park Slope.
With its raised panel wainscoting, coffered ceiling, triple bay window seat and one of four decorative mantles (one has a coat of arms!), the dining room’s classic features set the tone for the entire home. A few steps away is a light-filled eat-in kitchen with north and east exposures and a working Chambers stove.
An ornate crown molding, painted the same red as the dining room walls, winds its way through the extra large living room, where you will find a dramatic stair leading you to the rest of the residence’s multiple stories. Six bedrooms await you on the upper levels, where you can easily make the 3rd floor a private master suite, with sleeping quarters (and your own private deck) on one side of the full bathroom and an office or lovely den complete with cozy fireplace on the other—and you’d still have four additional bedrooms one flight up.
The garden floor greets you with a nearly 500-square-foot media room, as well as a Jacuzzi, sauna, and billiard table. And while we think it works perfectly as a recreation area, we wouldn’t mind being the lucky friend who gets to hang out here for a long weekend if it’s converted into a fabulous guest suite.
This ten-room treasure has presided over one of the most coveted blocks in Park Slope for more than a century. But even with his love of all things modern, we think a certain multimillionaire with discriminating taste for the finer things in life would feel right at home in this luxurious 3,800 square foot residence listed at $3.8 million, even if he needed to do a certain amount of, shall we say, redecorating.
