The Brooklyn Home Company Blends the Old with the New to Transform a Park Slope Home
As an artist, there’s nothing more liberating than being given total control to show what you can really do. So we’re guessing the design team at The Brooklyn Home Company was more than happy to be approached by a Park Slope family to renovate and redesign this historic four-story Lincoln Place townhouse. The team was given complete creative license while incorporating the family’s substantial art and furniture collection into the design. The final product is a completely fresh and new look for the owners, even though it features many familiar elements of a classic Brooklyn brownstone.
Existing wall treatments and floors played a large role in selecting the art and furniture for the home, many pieces of which were designed in-house. The kitchen boasts custom TBHCo-designed items such as a built-in pantry, solid Sapele countertop, and a red rubber-dipped chandelier. Meanwhile, a walnut and bronze table custom designed by their own star woodworker, Fitzhugh Karol, created a whole new aesthetic for the dining room.
The master bedroom and bath are separated by a dressing room/lounge area that features walnut storage cabinets and shelves custom designed by Karol. By simply changing the paint color and décor of this space and salvaging the original subfloor, the team managed to created an entirely new look and feel. A custom-made TBHCo shoe rack is the icing on the cake.
