1100 Architect Transforms a Boring Midtown Loft into Their Client’s Pop Art Dream Home

This home, which was previously your average-fair Midtown penthouse, was transformed by 1100 Architect to represent the playful and vibrant Pop art sensibility of the artists their clients admire most. With an art collection boasting names like Warhol, Riley, Lichtenstein and others, this penthouse renovation could be a mini-MoMA. The interior furnishings reflect the Pop style’s infamous geometric forms and hard-polished surfaces like marble agglomerate floors, lacquer, stainless steel, glass, and plastic.

The home has several shared living spaces, including the 40-foot-wide living room with large windows that provide expansive views of the 59th Street Bridge. The unique layout of the furniture was inspired by the ever-so-funky conversation pits of the 1960s. Additional seating can be found in the cozy library that is a rainbow of both color and texture.

The design of the layout is just as “poppy” as the art on the walls, as narrow hallways open into large foyers and rooms. A vibrantly-colored dining room is located at the center of the apartment and features a stainless steel circular table and red mod dining chairs.

The kitchen is designed with a softer palette of colors and materials including marble-based epoxy, stainless and hot-rolled steel, plaster, acrylic and painted wood.

The bedroom may only be one color, but with its myriad of bold textures it is far from boring. The headboard is made from rows of shiny cushioned circles while the bedspread is a white fluffy shag.
