$1.5M Brooklyn Heights Triplex in Landmarked Eagle Warehouse Gets a Modern Update

When Brooklyn architect Frank Freeman completed the Eagle Warehouse and Storage Company building in 1894 it served as a place to store furniture and silverware. One look at the main entrance’s bold Roman arch adorned with the company name in large bronze lettering and there is no mistaking the care Mr. Freeman took with his “warehouse project”.

A few years after being designated an official landmark by New York City’s Landmarks Preservation Commission, someone recognized the enormous potential of the building’s beautiful bones.  Brooklyn architect Bernard Rothzeid expertly preserved the warehouse’s straightforward yet classic aesthetic when he oversaw its renovation to condominiums in 1980. As a result, the new owners of this 2,100-square-foot triplex townhouse within can still stroll through that magnificent arch (now with the addition of a doorman in the lobby), or can opt to use their own private entrance with a fun and refreshing bright green door.

Inside, you will find “wow” in place of warehouse. The home’s open spaces are beautifully defined by white beamed ceilings ranging from 12 to 22 feet and original hardwood floors throughout. On the main level the industrial-looking valcucine kitchen boasts a Sub Zero fridge, Meile oven, stovetop, and dishwasher. The spacious living/dining area is perfect for entertaining and regaling guests with your home’s unique and varied history.

An open wooden stair with a platform landing anchors one end of the living space and leads to the upper level where you will find the Master suite. The completely private enclave has a bedroom that easily accommodates a king-sized bed (it can even be split into two rooms), a large sitting area, renovated bath, and closets galore. And the basement level, in addition to offering a huge storage area, features an extra large media room or den, plus two additional interior rooms.

Situated one block from Brooklyn Bridge Park, this is one warehouse that’s definitely moved up in the world.
