Rare Full-Floor Loft in Tribeca is a Work of Art by Famed Norwegian Architectural Firm Tupelo
Artists seem to find inspiration everywhere, often taking even the simplest of ideas and turning them into striking masterpieces. Well, whoever winds up living in this rare full-floor artists loft at 144 Franklin Street in Tribeca will hit the inspiration jackpot. Norwegian architectural firm Tupelo has indeed turned its simple industrial form replete with massive cast iron columns, beamed ceilings, hand-oiled maple floors, and custom oversized double-glazed windows into a beautiful work of art.
This stunning, 3,000-square-foot, three-bedroom loft was created for-and-by artists, which is evident the moment you step from the key-locked elevator through the original factory door and witness the seamless combination of spectacular modern design with Tribeca’s industrial history.
The home’s wide, open floor plan allows one to truly appreciate every inch of the space, from the big, bold living room with its intricate metal wall sculpture to the large and bright dining area with its unique and colorful lighting fixture.
The chef’s kitchen features Boffi cabinets, black absolute counters, and top-of-the-line appliances. Its crisp, clean lines are in stark contrast to the home’s original factory details, but neither functionality nor the home’s rustic appeal is compromised. We were especially intrigued by the mirrored exhaust system over the stove that almost looks like a wrinkle in time when viewed in the kitchen photos.
On the same floor as the public spaces, the bedrooms’ oversized windows and double-frosted-glass-and-hardwood sliding doors allow light to filter into the living room while still maintaining privacy. The spa-like master bath includes an Agape soaking tub and separate marble shower, and the second bath is smartly divided so that the shower and half bath can be combined or separately utilized.
Formerly an olive oil and feta factory, this historical home being offered at $4.8 million is conveniently located on one of Tribeca’s best blocks, near Hudson River Park and all that downtown has to offer. The inspiration, however, is free.
