John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are selling their two penthouses in Nolita for $18 million, the Wall Street Journal first reported. The couple purchased a $9 million unit in 2018 followed by a $7.7 million penthouse in 2020 in the six-story Brewster Carriage House at 374 Broome Street. The A-list duo told the WSJ they wanted to combine the two apartments into one but never did.
“We’ve realized that because of work and everything, we’re really mostly going to be in Los Angeles, so we’re going to focus our home-building energy and renovation energy on what we’re doing in L.A.,” Legend told the WSJ.
“We love being here,” the Grammy Award winner added. “But we’re not there enough to justify putting in the time and energy to combine apartments.”
The two apartments, one occupying the full sixth floor and the other half of the fifth floor, provide the next owner an opportunity to assemble a true dream home: a duplex penthouse with six bedrooms, six and a half baths, and a private landscaped roof deck.
Douglas Elliman’s Noble Black, David Son, Jennifer Stillman, and Cory Cahlon of Douglas Elliman are the listing agents.
Together, the apartments boast over 6,160 square feet of interior space and 3,360 square feet of outdoor space. Architectural elements include 12-foot ceilings, exposed brick, cast iron corinthian columns, and skylights throughout.
The custom kitchen features Miele appliances and a massive center island made of Cristallo white quartz.
Other nice touches include three gas fireplaces, radiant heat flooring in the bathrooms, and custom milled white oak floors.
The private rooftop has its own irrigation system and grill, in addition to the picture-perfect skyline views.
As 6sqft previously reported, the landmarked six-story building on Broome Street was built in 1856 as a carriage factory for Brewster & Co., known to serve affluent clients, including the Vanderbilts and Fricks. It was converted into a nine-unit condominium in 2005.
Legend and Teigen seemed to really like living at the building. The pair also owned a one-bedroom there until they sold it in 2016 for $4 million.
