New York City knows how to celebrate New Year’s Eve like no other. Amid its endless selection of extravagant rooftop parties and over-the-top events, it may seem impossible to ring in the New Year without it costing a pretty penny. However, enjoying New Year’s Eve in NYC doesn’t necessarily require you to spend hundreds of dollars. Ahead, we’ve found 20 New Year’s Eve events that cost less than $150 (and some are even free!), from watching a dazzling display of fireworks in Prospect Park to a brewery dance party.

Manhattan

NYE Bar Crawl
From the pub crawl pros comes the New Year’s Eve Bar Crawl of 2024. The annual event kicks off at Coyote Ugly Saloon in Gramercy and continues to Bar 13 and Phoenix Bar, with more establishments in the area to be determined. Select bars will feature live DJs and affordable drink specials. The night concludes with a champagne toast at midnight and an after-party. Tickets for the bar crawl and after-party cost $24.99 for a single person and $16.99 per person if purchasing tickets for four or more people.

NYRR Midnight Run
Central Park, Manhattan
Run into 2024 with the New York Road Runners. During the group’s annual Midnight Run in Central Park, runners line up at 11:59 p.m. and when the clock strikes midnight, head off into the park for a 4-mile race under a dazzling fireworks display that lights up the night sky. While the MacDougal Street club is already sold out, check out shows at its two other locations: The Fat Black Pussycat and The Village Underground. A 10:30 p.m. show includes ringing in midnight with comics seen on “The Tonight Show,” “The Conan O’Brien Show,” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Make sure you get your spot before the show is sold out! The West Village’s Donna, one of the only worker-owned bars in NYC, is offering a special prix fixe menu on New Year’s Eve. The $150 dinner for two includes two appetizers, entrees, and desserts, as well as two cocktails and a prosecco toast.

The special cocktail menu includes the 5th Year Senior (gin, ginger, lemon, elderflower, cognac, and cucumber tonic), and the Brancolada, Donna’s unique twist on a piña colada. The food menu includes dishes with a pan-Latin influence, featuring braised pork shoulder with roasted cabbage and tahini, roasted whole fish with rice and beans, and guacamole and pico de gallo with corn chips. Wagamama
Wagamama is hosting New Year’s Eve celebrations at its Midtown and Nomad locations, featuring a live DJ, a sparkling toast, and a special menu for $35 per person. The fast-casual restaurant, known for its Japanese cuisine, will also be serving noodles until 12:30 a.m. in addition to their special menu. Soar into the New Year at RiseNY, a state-of-the-art flying theater in Midtown that takes riders on a virtual aerial tour of NYC. The three-part journey starts with a film narrated by Jeff Goldblum, taking guests through the recreation of the city’s first subway station. The experience is accompanied by a series of exhibit galleries that feature different items, people, and events that have shaped the history of the city, including Ringo Starr’s drumhead from The Beatles 1964 tour and Madonna’s hand-painted Keith Haring jacket. The Standard Hotel’s beer garden is turning into a 1920s-era casino for New Year’s Eve, inviting guests to test their luck playing slot machines, roulette, craps, poker, and blackjack. The top five chip leaders at the end of the night will receive prizes. The hotel is hosting another NYE soiree in The Partridge. Comedian Ali Weiss will celebrate the New Year by looking back at the biggest pop culture moments of 2023. The free event has four meetup locations: 9:15 p.m. at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn, 10 p.m. at the Brooklyn entrance to the Williamsburg Bridge, 10:15 p.m. at Washington Square Park in Manhattan, and 10:30 p.m. at Madison Square Park at 23rd and Broadway. Red Hook’s Strong Rope Brewery is hosting a free New Year’s Eve celebration with trivia, delicious BBQ, a live DJ, and more. Prepare to welcome the New Year in style, with mouthwatering cuisine courtesy of Smokin’ Jerks BBQ from 6 p.m. until sold out, trivia from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., music from Red Hook-local DJ Radio Ramsés from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., and a midnight toast. The bar will also have the Times Square Ball Drop streaming for those who want to watch, and patrons will have a spectacular view of fireworks as they set off above the Statue of Liberty at midnight.
