October is a month of discovery for fans of New York City’s architecture, and a great time to explore the city’s unique spaces. In addition to the Archtober celebration, Open House New York Weekend 2024 has just announced this year’s lineup for a behind-the-scenes view of the city from October 18 to 20, promising hundreds of tours, unique access opportunities, and other events. From subway tunnels and skyscrapers to treasures as diverse as the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine Textile Conservation Lab to the Apollo Stages and the Bronx Music Hall, read on to discover over 270 places, tours, activities, and more throughout the five boroughs.

The OHNY Weekend festival has offered a deep dive into the city’s architectural environment since 2003, with special tours led by architects, engineers, designers, preservationists, historians, community advocates, curators, and more.

“The act of opening doors to share the experience of the city is a radically simple yet deeply democratic act—one rooted in learning, connecting, and joy,” Kristin LaBuz, executive director of Open House New York, explained in a statement.

“Nothing reflects the dynamism and diversity of New York quite like OHNY Weekend and nothing rivals the experience of helping thousands of New Yorkers and visitors worldwide explore why the city looks, feels, and functions the way it does.”

The majority of OHNY Weekend sites and events are Open Access (free!), but tickets (most of which are $6) are required at some sites for space or security reasons. There is no lottery this year, the tickets will be released on a first-come, first-serve basis at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8.
