Restaurateur Danny Meyer is reviving New York City’s only revolving restaurant. Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) and the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel announced plans to renovate and reopen The View, an aptly named bar and restaurant on floors 47 and 48 that opened in Times Square in 1985. The new menu will feature American classics with a “theatrical twist.”

Formerly host to an all-you-can-eat buffet, the two-story restaurant will be reimagined by David Rockwell’s Rockwell Group as an “upscale dining destination,” that will take inspiration from classic American supper clubs, according to a press release.

While it’s temporarily halted spinning, the restaurant can rotate 360 degrees each hour providing a unique view of Manhattan.

“Both the New York Marriott Marquis and USHG were established in 1985, and each has played a pivotal role in reshaping New York’s hospitality landscape over the past 40 years,” USHG Founder and Executive Chairman Danny Meyer said.

“By combining culinary excellence with warm hospitality, we intend to create a destination dining experience and evening out – smack dab in the heart of the Broadway Theater District – that appeals to New Yorkers and visitors alike. At The View, we’ll be taking a look back, forward, and all around!”

Guests arrive on the 48th floor, which will feature a 20-seat bar and lounge with a full-service bar and raw bar offering elevated bar snacks and small plates. A spiral staircase leads to the 47th floor, where The View has a full-service restaurant and live music. The menu will include “American classics, theatrical desserts, playful, yet elegant cocktails, and an extensive wine menu.”

“Together with USHG, we’re redefining the standard of a Times Square restaurant in the same way that the Marriott Marquis reimagined this neighborhood when it first opened in 1985,” says Area General Manager at the New York Marriott Marquis, Daniel Nadeau.

“The View will always be a historic part of New York, now with an added touch of downtown sensibility and USHG’s signature hospitality.”

The revamped revolving restaurant will open this winter.
