MTA releases Olivia Rodrigo MetroCards as second-to-last custom card

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has released its second-to-last limited-edition MetroCard before fully transitioning to the tap-and-go OMNY system. In collaboration with Sony, the special cards will feature pop star Olivia Rodrigo wearing the new Sony Linkbuds in her signature purple aesthetic. The MTA on Monday loaded machines at seven subway stations across the city with 50,000 limited-edition cards.

Starting Monday, the MetroCards will be available at select vending machines at these stations:

  • 34th Street-Herald Square (B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, and W lines)
  • 14th Street-Union Square (L, N, Q, R, W, 4, 5, and 6 lines) 
  • Times Square-42nd Street (N, Q, R, W, S, 1, 2, 3, and 7 lines)
  • 149th Street-Grand Concourse (2, 4, and 5 lines)
  • Jay Street-MetroTech (A, C, F, and R lines)
  • 74th Street-Broadway (7 line)
  • Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue (A, C, F, and R lines)

Earlier this month, Sony unveiled two new versions of their wireless LinkBuds series, including a custom-designed model created in collaboration with Olivia Rodrigo. The limited-edition cards are part of Sony’s latest creative campaign, featuring the pop star wearing the earbuds at the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn.

“To be on one of the last-ever custom MetroCards is super cool. I had so much fun shooting my Sony campaign on the New York City subway. I can’t wait to see my fans wearing these Sony LinkBuds designed in my favorite violet color,” Rodrigo said.

In May, the MTA released limited-edition Ice Spice MetroCards celebrating the Bronx rapper’s debut album. In collaboration with Capital Records, the MTA loaded MetroCard machines at four select stations in the Bronx and Manhattan with 50,000 cards.

The limited-edition card release marks the second to last custom cards to ever be created as the city gradually replaces MetroCards with the tap-and-go OMNY system.
