The Upper East Side co-op at 895 Park Avenue was built in 1930 to the designs of Sloan & Robertson, best known for the Art Deco Chanin Building in Midtown. The firm employed the same period style here, but this unit has undergone a more recent renovation that infused it with a glamorous Art Deco style that still feels fresh and modern. Asking $13,750,000, the home has four bedrooms, a moody library, formal and informal dining rooms, and, our favorite, a kitchen that resembles a French bistro.

A private elevator landing opens into a marble entrance gallery, off which are all the entertaining rooms. The corner living room has a wood-burning fireplace, contemporary coffered ceiling, and four oversized windows. Throughout the home, you’ll find custom bespoke details everywhere, from the paint finishes and wall coverings to the millwork and plaster moldings to the baseboards and marble inlays on all the windowsills to the custom bronze hardware.

Off the living room is the formal dining room, which is wrapped in walnut paneling and has custom built-ins and a Chesney vapor fireplace.

In the other corner of the home is the library, which has been decorated in a moody, regal style. Here, the original paneling has been restored and has hand-painted 18-carat gold detailing. There’s also a second Chesney vapor fireplace and four more oversized windows.

A butler’s pantry–complete with a sink, wine refrigerator, refrigerator and freezer drawers, and custom storage–connects the library to the informal dining room, which then leads into the kitchen. The informal dining room can seat 12 and feels more like a Parisian cafe. The kitchen, which is also giving off serious French bistro vibes, has the same mosaic floor tiles and dark wood paneling. It also has a center island with seating for four, industrial-style open shelving, and high-end appliances including a Subzero refrigerator and freezer, two Miele dishwashers, Miele steam oven, Miele microwave/convection oven, AGA Mercury induction range with five burners and two ovens, a custom vented hood, and two sinks–one clad in brass and the other in Belgian marble.

Adjacent to the kitchen, through a wall of glass, is a windowed laundry room with a Miele washer/dryer and a sink, as well as a staff bedroom suite and a hallway full bathroom. Two large coat closets and an elegant powder room complete the public spaces.

The primary bedroom suite occupies the entire southeastern end of the home. It has yet another Chesney vapor fireplace, a huge windowed dressing room, two additional oversized closets, and a marble-clad en-suite bathroom with two sinks, an enormous shower, and a separate water closet. An attached room can be used as another bedroom or an adjacent sitting room/office.

The other two bedrooms both have en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closets.

The 19-story building is located between East 78th and 79th Streets, close to Central Park and the 6 train at 77th Street. It has just 36 units and offers a doorman, gym, squash court, and basketball court.
