A charming 18th-century farmstead in Connecticut’s Fairfield County is on the market for $1,150,000. Located on two private acres at 289 Nod Hill Road in Wilton, the property includes a four-bedroom main house, a barn, four additional detached structures, and a chicken coop. Built in 1790, the cozy home boasts some original details, including the historic hearth in the “keeping” room.
The home has been well cared for during the last two centuries, as it’s only changed hands four times since it was constructed, according to the listing. The main residence measures just over 2,100 square feet and includes four bedrooms and three full baths.
On the first level, there is a spacious living room with a number of windows overlooking the front and side yards. Next door, there is a quaint dining room with a wood-burning fireplace and antique-inspired wallpaper.
The family room, or what was called a keeping room in 18th-century homes, sits in the center of this floor, just off of the kitchen. The room features the original hearth that was constructed with the home in 1790. The beehive-style oven was originally used to cook, but 21st-century residents are better off using the newly renovated kitchen instead. Hardwood floors and curved built-ins add to the room’s old-school character.
The kitchen has classic black-and-white tile flooring, open cabinets, an eat-in kitchen, and direct access to the deck. As does the primary bedroom, which has an en-suite bathroom and two closets.
The remaining three bedrooms are on the second level, in addition to a huge bathroom with a soaking tub and separate shower. A third-floor loft with vaulted ceilings and flexible space overlooks the second floor.
The finished lower level has lots of possibilities as an office or playroom, with a laundry room, closets, and a private entrance. While it feels like the ultimate hideaway, the home is only a 90-minute drive from Manhattan.
