$875,000 lake-front home in Westchester was designed by a Frank Lloyd Wright student

Architect Roy S. Johnson was a disciple of Frank Lloyd Wright who designed many a mid-century home around the Hudson Valley area. One unique example is this rustic, lake-front home in the Westchester town of Bedford, which is now listed for $875,000. The home is located on “Old Wagon Road,” and though we can’t be certain, it seems as though Johnson may have taken inspiration from this locale, as the shape of the house somewhat resembles a covered wagon.
The home was built in 1964 and sits on 5.6 acres of land adjacent to Bedford Lake. It’s just minutes from the Bedford Village Historic District, with its quaint downtown, and an hour’s drive from NYC.
The home is 4,205 square feet and has five bedrooms and four bathrooms.
The highlight of the home is the massive living room and its stone fireplace, all of which sits under double-height wooden beamed ceilings.
The dining room sits off the living room and opens into the huge enclosed porch, which then leads out to the even larger backyard deck.
The kitchen has enough space for a separate breakfast nook and features another stone fireplace with a built-in grill. Other amenities include a center island, custom cabinetry, and a walk-in butler’s pantry.
The open master suite overlooks the living room and fireplace.
Most of the bedrooms feature wood-paneled walls and dormer windows.
The third floor is a completely open loft, which, as the listing says, is “perfect for guests or [a] bonus room.” In addition, the lower level is finished and has an au pair suite with a separate entrance.
There is a private dock and deck down on the lake, which is ideal for outdoor dining, swimming, boating, and all the water activities you can imagine.
