$5.75M brownstone in historic Harlem has a secret garden

The brownstones of Harlem‘s Mount Morris Park Historic District are some of the most beautiful in Manhattan, like this one at 105 West 122nd Street, which is breathtaking inside and out. This grand, Italianate home was built in 1920 and underwent a gut renovation in 2008 in which historic details like stained glass, woodwork, and moldings were all restored. It also included a new design for the rear garden, which is now a magical retreat. The five-bedroom home is now listed for $5,750,000.
When the 19-foot-wide brownstone was renovated, it included the facade, as well as interiors by Harlem-based designer Sheila Bridges and the backyard by Devore Associates and landscape architect Roger Miller.
The parlor floor begins the experience with gorgeous stained glass transom windows, pocket doors, restored wood floors, two original mantels (the living room fireplace is the only one in the home that’s gas-burning), and a hand-carved Mahogany staircase.

It’s made extra cozy with a fireplace with a restored original mantle, grasscloth-covered walls, and mahogany closets that were recently built to the same specifications as the original. Past the closets is the en-suite bathroom, complete with Carrera marble, a spa tub, and a glass-in shower.
The top floor is super bright thanks to a large hallway skylight. It has two more bedrooms, both with walk-in closets and a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. There’s also a laundry room in the hall.
Back down on the garden level, a spacious rec room with exposed brick walls leads out to the garden. Here, an outdoor seating area is below a wooden pergola, and six-foot evergreens line the perimeter for privacy.
Also on the garden level is a renovated studio apartment with a full bathroom, kitchen, and original fireplace. It’s currently used as the nanny’s suite but the listing says it can be delivered vacant.
In addition, the cellar level is full of built-in storage, along with a half bathroom and two wine coolers than hold 112 bottles.
