Eight-story Beekman Place mansion lowers price yet again to $11.45M

It’s been more than six years since this stately home at 29 Beekman Place first listed for $37.5 million, and it’s now back on the market for less than a third of that price. Built in 1934 as the largest of all the mansions along the exclusive enclave, the home is eight stories and has 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, two terraces, and amazing East River views. It’s only had three owners in its lifetime, starting with its first resident, CBS founder William S. Paley.
The home has 12,000 square feet of interior space, as well as three terraces that total 1,5000 square feet of outdoor space. On the first floor, the banquet-sized dining room is connected to a small kitchen off the foyer and has the first terrace. Also on this floor is a wood-paneled library with a wood-burning fireplace.
All told, the house has eight wood-burning fireplaces, along with central A/C and an interior elevator.
An open gallery greets you on the second floor, where you’ll find the formal living room with another fireplace and a street-facing Juliet balcony.
In the back of the second floor, the parlor room boasts yet another fireplace, along with blonde wood-paneled walls and built-ins and an adjacent sunroom that has windows on all sides looking across to Long Island City and Brooklyn and all the way down New York Harbor.
The third floor holds the master suite, which comes complete with a dressing room, walk-in closet, en-suite bathroom, and private terrace. There’s another bedroom on this floor, too.
There are two en-suite bathrooms on both the fourth and fifth floors.
The sixth floor has an office with a street-facing terrace, as well as a rear, glass-enclosed sitting room with incredible views. The seventh floor is labeled on the floorplan as staff quarters, but it could also be another couple small bedrooms.
In the basement, there’s a 32-foot-long commercial-grade chef’s kitchen. There’s also a sub-basement that has storage space and a wine cellar.
As the listing says, the property’s “size and grandeur” make it a fit “for a private mansion, Live/Work, a Foundation, or an ideal Consulate/Diplomat Residence–with its proximity to the United Nations.”
