Moby’s former Central Park West turret penthouse is four floors of views for $5.75M

We’ve gotta hand it to Moby–he has had some killer taste in real estate over the years, from his “tiny but charming” Nolita penthouse to the incredible midcentury house in Westchester he sold for charity. But perhaps the most fabulous place of all was his four-story penthouse at the iconic El Dorado on Central Park West, where he lived from 2005 to 2008. Not only is the sprawling co-op located in the landmarked building’s south tower (it occupies the entire 31st, 32nd, 33rd, and 34th floors), but it boasts four landscaped terraces with sweeping skyline and Central Park views. First reported by the Post, it’s now back on the market for $5,750,000.
A semi-private elevator landing opens to a stairway that leads into the incredible south-tower penthouse. The first room you’ll see is the 20′ x 21′ foot corner great room, where many of the home’s 34 large, new windows are on display. There’s a beautiful fireplace in the room, as well as built-in shelving and two cozy window seats.
Off the living room, is the first of three terraces. This one, nearly 10′ x 32′ feet, has a built-in sectional outdoor sofa on one end and a dining area on the other. And, of course, the views speak for themselves.
Off the great is the Kitchen, which was designed with custom cabinetry, a clean white subway tile backsplash, and stainless steel Miele and Sub-Zero appliances. The kitchen opens to the second terrace, which is roughly 21′ x 10′ feet.
Also on this floor is an elegant yet funky bathroom that has a washer/dryer.
On the second level, you’ll find the master suite, along with a second bedroom and bathroom.
The third terrace is also on this level.
On the third level, up a wrought-iron staircase, a mahogany-aged, wood-paneled library takes on the turret’s octagonal shape. It has lovely built-in shelving and opens to the fourth and final terrace.
And finally, on the fourth floor, a cozy media room/den feels like you’re in an actual castle above Central Park.
As mentioned, Moby (real name Richard Hall) bought the penthouse in 2005 for $4.5 million. He listed it for $7.5 million in 2007, even going so far as “recording video walk-throughs and offering his friends a $75,000 referral fee if they found a buyer,” as Curbed later reported. He ultimately sold it in 2008 for $6.7 million. Apparently, Moby decided to sell because he missed living downtown so much, although he did say at the time that it was “the most interesting and unique apartment I’ve ever seen in New York City.”
