This charming 20-foot wide Victorian home at 47 Chauncey Street in Bed-Stuy is not only part of the Stuyvesant Heights Historic District—it’s one of the four oldest remaining rowhouses in the district, dating back to circa 1870. Last year, the two-bedroom home was sold in a pretty run-down state and has since undergone a gut renovation that brought modern finishes and conveniences to the historic property. It’s now on the market for $1.599 million.
The property is one of four two-story houses that were developed by lawyer Charles E. Larned after he purchased the lots in 1867. “Built before 1870, they are snugly nestled between the higher adjoining buildings,” the designation report states. “Although a variety of surface veneers cover the fronts of these houses,” number 47 retained its covered, south-facing porch and original doors. “Low iron railings with gates enclose the front yards and unify this row of cozy vernacular houses.”
Inside, a central fireplace divides the reimagined, open parlor level into living and dining areas. Wide oak flooring and recessed lights feature throughout.
The garden-facing kitchen boasts a ten-foot Carrera marble island, white Shaker-inspired cabinetry, a subway tile backsplash, and a full suite of stainless steel appliances. Outside, the enclosed garden benefits from a new fence, a paved area, and fresh grass—a primed canvas ready to be furnished and planted.
The second floor is comprised of two bedrooms: a master suite with a private terrace at the back of the home, and a south-facing second bedroom (currently used as a home office) with three large windows in the front.
There’s also a fully finished basement, equipped with a designated laundry area.
