A mansion in New Jersey once referred to as the “White House of Englewood,” is back on the market after a major price cut of $29 million. Located at 83 North Woodland Street in a suburb less than 10 miles from Manhattan, the home is asking $9.99 million. In 2013, the property was listed for $39 million, one of the most expensive listings in the state at the time. Built on five acres of land in 1926, the 24,000-square-foot home boasts a Mediterranean-style design and contains eight bedrooms, a home theater, an infinity pool, and a private lake, all enclosed by a 10-foot-high wall.
Known as Gloria Crest, the estate was rumored to have been gifted to silent film actress Gloria Swanson by Joseph Kennedy, father of President John Kennedy, during their alleged affair. It was built during the 1920s for Stefan Poniatowski of Poland. After the stock market crash of 1929, the home, and most of Poniatowski’s belongings, had to be auctioned, Forbes reported.
Behind its terra-cotta facade, the home contains eight bedrooms, nine baths, five half baths, and five powder rooms. Original details like super-tall ceilings, fireplaces, gilded moldings, and stunning Tiffany stained glass ceiling remain.
In addition to the outdoor pool, the home features a huge patio area, elevator, billiards room, fitness room, theater, and top-of-the-line appliances. The attached garage has enough space for five vehicles.
