The landmarked 1894 row house at 386 Stuyvesant Avenue, among the elegant Beaux-Arts limestones of Brooklyn’s Stuyvesant Heights neighborhood, has the impressive layout and scale of a trophy brownstone and the interiors of a designer show house. Brought back to life by designer duo Dahill Bunce, the two-family home is asking $3.195 million. Rich in original detail, the 19′ x 48′ home has a few surprises that set it apart, like a convenient “summer kitchen” leading to an enviable back garden.
In addition to being blessed with previous owners who kept it in top condition, the four-story townhouse was able to retain its gracious layout and grand proportions while it was transformed into a modern home. Past the brownstone stoop and elegant, restored entryway, the home’s parlor floor has the impressive ceiling height we’d expect above formal living and dining rooms.
A modern jewel of a chef’s kitchen features cabinets of dark fumed oak with patinated brass inlay and statement countertops of Calacatta Paonazzo marble. This one-of-a-kind kitchen gets loads of light from oversized bay windows with stained glass insets that overlook a private terrace atop an extension below.
On the second you’ll find a gracious king-sized master suite with treetop views, original fireplaces, a built-in upholstered window seat and a custom walk-in closet. Original wash basins have been maintained but re-purposed to serve as vanities and storage.
Across the suite is a private sitting area/dressing room which can also serve as an office or library.
One flight up are three additional bedrooms and a full bath with a stunning cast iron tub, Cararra marble tiles and restored skylights.
On the garden level is a well-appointed second unit for additional rental income or use as an in-law suite. Sadly not pictured here, this level also features an additional fully-equipped kitchen complete with storage, refrigeration, and running water. Through this “summer kitchen” is the home’s back garden, landscaped with plantings and stone pavers.
With new mechanicals and windows and a finished cellar, the mint-condition home is completely move-in ready, complete with designer cachet; the duo’s previous projects include 588 Madison and 1 Verona Place, which broke the record for the highest-selling two-family house in Bed-Stuy.
