This summer, take a getaway to this iconic mid-century home on Fire Island. Located at 443 Sail Walk, the aptly named Pyramid House measures 2,100 square feet and has three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. As first reported by the New York Post, the Long Island property will cost you $325,000 to rent the modern-style home for the whole summer, or $100,000 for the month of June, $125,000 for July, and $125,000 for August. If you’re looking for a more long-term escape, the home, which has been winterized for year-round living, is also available to buy for $6.5 million.

The home was built in 1961 for a nephew of J.P. Morgan by renowned Argentinian architect Julio Kaufman. The home has seen a number of owners over the decades, including playwright and screenwriter Paul Rudnick and fashion and costume designer Jeff Mahshie, who sold it to its current owner.

The house was renovated in 2006 by architect Hal Hayes, who added the signature wall of glass to the great room that gives way to breathtaking views of dunes and the ocean beyond. Also situated in the great room are the home’s living room, kitchen, and dining areas, which share the privilege of ocean views.

A spacious primary suite features a large bathroom, private study, and dressing room, and overlooks the dunes and the pool deck below where the home’s guest cabana is located. Consisting of two bedrooms connected by a bathroom in between, the guest quarters carry on the home’s pyramid-inspired design and are perfect for hosting visitors.

The guest homes sit directly in front of the property’s pool, which has a separate hot tub situated off to the side.

Brown Harris Stevens agent Glenn Rice, the home’s current owner, purchased the Pyramid House in 2018 for $1.6 million after being captivated by its striking design. Rice then filled the home with items from his personal collection of furniture from the 1960s and 70s, added roughly $400k in upgrades, and listed the fully-furnished home on the market for $6.5 million this past September.

The home received new mechanical systems and galvanized steel structural beams in its latest renovation, giving a degree of structural safety that goes beyond the majority of homes on Fire Island.
