The triplex penthouse at Zaha Hadid’s High Line condo relists for $50M
One of New York City’s most illustrious penthouses has once again hit the market for $50 million, the same price it was listed for more than two years prior. The grand triplex apartment, Penthouse 37, is located in late starchitect Zaha Hadid’s condo building in Chelsea, 520 West 28th Street. Measuring over 6,800 square feet, the apartment’s three levels are connected by a sculptural staircase, the architectural centerpiece of this stunning home. The roof level includes a 2,000-square-foot terrace which offers views of the Chelsea skyline and the High Line.
“Within the penthouse, this centrepiece is manifest as the sculptural staircase that extends all three floors, connecting its interior with the large outdoor terrace,” Johannes Schafelner, the project director at Zaha Hadid Architects, said.
“An evolution of the flowing spiral staircases within Zaha Hadid’s cultural buildings, this staircase is designed with multiple perspectives that engage perception and draw the eye from the horizontal to vertical—uniting the penthouse’s three levels with the fluid design language of the building’s facade.”
The sprawling 1,200-square-foot great room can be found on the middle level, which features walls of glass and views facing three directions, the Empire State Building framed behind it. Additional include a fireplace and private balcony.
This level also includes an eat-in kitchen designed by Hadid in collaboration with Boffi and includes a sculptural marble-clad island with Gaggenau appliances.
An office/library, media room, and an en-suite bedroom can also be found on this middle floor, with each room bathed in natural light.
Four of the five bedrooms are located on the lower level, called the “family” level in the listing. The master suite has its own balcony, dressing room, and dual master suites. It also boasts picture-perfect views of the sculpture garden atop Paul Kasmin’s new art gallery at 509 West 27th Street. In addition to the bedrooms, there is a utility room and wet bar.
The highlight of the penthouse is its highest level, a 2,218-square-foot private outdoor terrace wrapped around a glassy lounge. According to the listing, this perfect-for-entertaining space can fit 100 guests. There’s even the potential to combine this penthouse with another next door, for an incredible 11,121-square-foot interior.
Amenities at Hadid’s curvy, High Line-hugging condo include a private IMAX theater, a 75-foot sky-lit lap pool, landscaped courtyard, a spa suite, and automated robotic parking. With features like that, it’s no surprise the building is home to some celebrities, including Sting and Ariana Grande.
