Go pumpkin picking and trick-or-treating on Governors Island

It’s officially October, which means it’s time to start planning your fall agenda. And while there are plenty of great places for pumpkin picking and foliage peeking outside the city, there are still some ways to enjoy autumnal activities without leaving NYC. On Governors Island, you’ll find one of New York City’s only pumpkin patches, complete with a backdrop of fall foliage, live music, a beer garden, and pumpkin painting with the Children’s Museum of the Arts. And on Saturday the 27th, the Island will host free trick-or-treating.
This is the second year for Pumpkin Point, where thousands of pumpkins transform historic Nolan Park. It’s free to visit and the pumpkins can be handpicked and purchased for a small donation to benefit the Friends of Governors Island. Pumpkin Point will be open for two weekends–October 20/21 and 27/28–from 11am to 5pm. And on the 27th from 1-3pm, dress up in your best costume and bring the kiddos for trick-or-treating “from porch to porch of the historic former officers’ homes of Nolan Park, where the Island’s arts and cultural organizations, staff and volunteers will hand out free candy and other treats.”
