This $7M Nomad loft has a rock-climbing wall, spiral slide, and zip line
Tap into your inner child and imagine what features would make an ideal living space. Slide, rock wall, and zip line would most likely be the top three. Well, now your inner child and your actual child can have it all in this insanely fun and functional five-bedroom unit at 260 5th Avenue in Nomad, asking $6,995,00. Profiled previously by 6sqft, the home was envisioned by the architects at Studio DB, who created an elegant, functional and fun home that would make any family giddy from morning until night.
It’s no surprise that this home is a child’s fantasy since its owner spends a lot of time around children as a pediatrician. Dr. Beth Worley has four children of her own and tasked her family to design this space together. “My kids wanted monkey bars, a slide, a zip line, a rock-climbing wall and a secret passageway connecting the rooms…It became a family project,” she told the Post. The family took the job seriously. They did their research, conducted participant observation on the best features the city’s playgrounds had to offer and drew sketches.
The 4,000-square-foot loft encompasses the entire seventh floor of the residential building, which was built in 1928. It has exposures on all four sides and is infused with light throughout. Unheard of in the city, the first room off the elevator is a mud room. Compass listing agent Scott Hustis says, “It’s the best of the suburban living in the city.” There is also a 50-foot-wide great room with 11-foot ceilings and a total of 14 windows.
The huge chef’s kitchen comes with a 17-foot island to seat your children and their entire basketball team, including the second string. But not only is the home perfect for hosting team parties, it is an ideal adult gathering space as well. Hidden behind the kitchen is a fully equipped butlers pantry/prep kitchen which features additional storage, refrigerator drawers, and another dishwasher.
Hustis says, “this is one of those unique homes that checks every box. What is most striking is the scale of the home and the ability to have the front and back of the home so distinct. The fun part is you can simultaneously have an event or a dinner party in one part of the house and the kids can be there but in their own space.”
Each of the children’s rooms connect to a shared loft space and has its own way to access that shared space including a rock wall, monkey bars, and a ladder. The zip line sits on a metal track and extends all the way down the hallway to each child’s bedroom. There is also a secret passage that leads from one room to another and the unmissable a plastic-spiral yellow slide. Thankfully, the slide is big enough to fit adults.
The designers made this space a place everyone in the family can enjoy. Worley’s goal “to create something that would be fun for everybody and would get the kids hanging out more” was clearly accomplished. The adult spaces are sophisticated and beautiful while the kid spaces are beautiful and cheery. All of this and Madison Square Park steps from your door makes this unit incredibly special.
