In Bay Ridge, you can own Tony Manero’s house from ‘Saturday Night Fever’ for $2.5M
This 1920s home on a tranquil Bay Ridge street looks innocuous enough from the outside, but its claim to fame is something it has in common with the neighborhood itself, and about which residents have an uneasy pride: The house had a star turn as main character Tony Manero’s family home in the decade-defining “Saturday Night Fever.” But the house at 221 79th Street was renovated in 2005, and there’s not a disco ball to be found (though there is a Jacuzzi). And the family-sized home with a deck and a driveway is asking a very un-disco-era $2.498 million.
Though it may be a piece of movie nostalgia, the home has been thoroughly revamped since its disco days, bringing it at least as far as the early ’90s–but definitely with luxury in mind. According to a previous account by the Post, Russian immigrant Julia Ashirova bought the home in 2005 with her ex-boyfriend because “he was in love” with the movie and grew up practicing John Travolta’s dance moves. After purchasing the property, they altered the floorplan and added the Tudor-style facade, though they did preserve some of the original interior details.
There are cherry wood floors throughout, as well as original woodwork and stained glass, original built-ins and a wood-burning fireplace in the dining room.
The well-stocked eat-in kitchen is decked out in stainless steel appliances and espresso wood cabinets.
The home has room for at least four bedrooms; there are currently four bedrooms and a media room on the second floor. The only night fever you’ll find here today can probably be traced to the gas stove in the home’s master suite.
And we can’t even imagine Tony perfecting his famous hair in this bathroom.
But watching TV in the Jacuzzi? Perhaps.
This balcony tucked away above it all is perfect for entertaining or reminiscing
