This renovated Park Slope co-op, asking $995K, has its own Instagram account
If there was a contest for most popular apartments in New York City, this one would be in the running as the winner. Apartment #3L at the Park Slope co-op 749 Union Street has been profiled in Lonny and Architectural Digest. It has its own Instagram account. And it was designed by Dan Mazzarini, the former director of store design at Ralph Lauren who went on to open his own design firm, BHDM. Envisioned as a black-and-white bachelor pad with a sleek, modern kitchen, the apartment is now looking for its next owner at an ask of $995,000.
In his design, Dan Mazzarini tried to mimic his client’s style: “formal during the week and kicked back on the weekend,” according to Lonny. “Thus, an orderly black-and-white respite for a buttoned-up lawyer, and a cool and welcoming crash pad for his frequent out-of-town guests.”
The floor-to-ceiling bay window with the original molding was preserved but painted black. That striking design element was offset with the white bricked wall. A wood-burning fireplace, statement lighting, and custom built-in bookcases are among of the mix of historic details and customized modern touches. The brushed brass chandelier above the dining table is from Studio L.A.
The kitchen features high-gloss gray cabinets (from IKEA), brushed brass finishes, and a black marble counter with a herringbone backsplash. The color palette of black, white and gray was maintained throughout the two-bedroom home.
The master bedroom has double exposures that look over the tree-lined street. While the windows still have their original molding, BHDM added a flourish with custom wooden blinds.
The guest bedroom holds built-in shelving. Like the master bedroom, the space was renovated to accommodate eight-foot-tall statement doors.
The bathroom got an oversized walk-in rain shower, linen closet and a vanity with a marble countertop. Black and white Mexican cement tiles add a unique twist to the space.
749 Union Street is an eight-unit co-op just off Park Slope’s main drag of 5th Avenue. It’s about a five-minute walk to Grand Army Plaza, the entrance to Prospect Park. Every unit in the building comes with its own deeded storage space in the basement–but we think this is the only apartment boasting its own Instagram account.
