Musician Danger Mouse lists industrial-chic Gramercy garden duplex for $1.675M
Musician/music producer Brian Burton (a.k.a. Danger Mouse) has just listed his cool maisonette-meets-loft duplex at 222 East 17th Street in Gramercy (h/t Luxury Listings). The six-time Grammy winner, “Grey Album” mashup artist, and Gnarls Barkley founder bought the pad in 2014 for $1.4 million. Likely a selling point was the garden co-op’s private church-adjacent garden that looks more fairy tale than hip hop.
The pre-war home’s main entry is on the parlor level; head down the corridor to a spacious master bedroom with an original arched window and a wood-burning fireplace. Also on this floor is an en-suite master bath and a good-sized living room lit by an oversized window and French door.
From the French door, head onto a deck and down the stairs to the large private garden that abuts the majestic chapel of St. George’s Church with its exposed brick and stone walls.
There’s a private entrance on the home’s lower level though it can also be accessed from the parlor floor. On this floor you’ll find a sprawling open space designed with industrial-chic details like poured concrete floors, a wood-beamed ceiling and an exposed brick and aged steel wall. There’s a renovated open kitchen, a second full bath, and two more fireplaces. Additional details include high ceilings and a split-zone air conditioning system.
