New details revealed for Upper West Side’s starchitect-studded Waterline Square

As 6sqft previously reported, the three buildings that comprise the Upper West Side‘s Waterline Square are rapidly rising from a five-acre site overlooking the Hudson River. For the neighborhood’s most exciting and ambitious project in decades, a group of the architecture and design world’s most celebrated names was chosen by GID Development Group to create the master plan, with Richard Meier and Partners, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and Rafael Viñoly Architects each designing a residential tower. We’ve been graced with leaked renderings of what’s to come on several occasions; now, the project’s dream team has lifted the curtain on a comprehensive website that reveals so-far unseen renderings of the towers and their interiors, the 100,000 square feet of amenity space that will be shared between them and the three-acre park designed by Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects.
Each residential tower–together adding up to 1,000 rental and condo apartments–will have its own interior design theme with finishes by Champalimaud, Yabu Pushelberg, Groves & Co, and the Rockwell Group. One Waterline Square, designed by Richard Meier, will feature the Pritzker Prize-winning architect’s signature white and an “undulating glass and metal facade that offers visual interest from each exposure.”
The 37-story building will offer sweeping views of the Manhattan waterfront; the 288 residences within will be created by Champalimaud Design and will feature high ceilings, banks of windows, and a selection of hand-picked materials. The tower will also feature a sky-high suite of private amenities including a sundeck with an outdoor kitchen.
Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) are designing the twin-pinnacled Two Waterline Square along the project’s northern edge. Partner Bill Pedersen says, “The cascading aspect of our building is its most dominant characteristic; that powerful sweep from the west down to the east, and the connection to the river and park.”
The building will contain a rental and condominium residences and feature luxury additions like a porte-cochère at street level and set-back terraces. The building’s condos will offer interiors designed by Yabu Pushelberg to “present a sense of grounded, peaceful solidity.”
Three Waterline Square, designed by Rafael Viñoly, represents a dramatic departure from the architect’s grid-like 432 Park Avenue. Viñoly says, “It looks like a sculpture, but this diamond form has a very important purpose, which is to deliver clear, optimal views from each residence.” The 34-story tower will offer apartments with exterior walls that are angled to fully optimize the buildng’s stunning views. Interiors by Groves & Co. will offer stylish comfort befitting the building’s unique architecture.
At least equally deserving of mention is the project’s impressive menu of amenities. The Waterline Club will be designed by amenity pros Rockwell Group and will be divided among all three buildings. Highlights include a swimming pool, a mini bowling alley, a 4,600-square-foot kids’ playroom; gardening, art, and music studios, an indoor tennis court, basketball court, soccer field, indoor skate park and a 30-foot rock climbing wall.

Sales are set to launch in the months to come, with condos starting from about $2 million and with closings expected to begin in the second half of 2018.
