Asking $750K, this little Chelsea apartment launched an interior design startup

It’s a success story we’ve seen over and over again; in this particular case, the home’s small-space makeover was the inspiration for successful designer-client matchup service Homepolish–the homeowner, a coder for Buzzfeed, went on to partner with the interior design company’s founder to help others find smart design solutions. The fifth-floor apartment is currently asking $750,000.

The apartment’s structural elements take advantage of the fifth floor’s natural light, starting with a large, wood-beamed skylight above the living room; the high ceilings and original beams are from the 1920s. A wall of exposed brick adds visual warmth, and a wood-burning fireplace brings actual warmth as well as old-world character. Another top-floor perk: City views that include the Empire State Building. A typical cool detail: a built-in desk and bookshelf in the living room.

The bedroom may not be palatial (there’s enough room for a queen-sized bed), but it’s been made both convenient and attractive with a wall of slate blue and custom shelving. A renovated bathroom features teak ceilings and terra-cotta tiled floors along with crisp white tile with black tile accents.

The open kitchen is compact and offers granite countertops and an island with ample storage space.

This pre-war co-op building has recently been renovated and offers an elevator, laundry, private basement storage and bike storage. Pied-a-terres, co-purchasing, gifting, and sublets are all allowed.

Two more things that make this apartment unique: The new owner gets the option to purchase the roof deck above to create a private garden oasis, and the apartment can also be purchased furnished, so all that cool decorator swag can stay right where it is.
