Studio Tack transforms an old motor lodge into a minimalist boutique hotel in Upstate New York
This 1960s guesthouse in upstate New York was recently transformed into a charming boutique hotel by the Brooklyn-based design firm Studio Tack. The Scribner’s Catskill Lodge boasts a modern yet rustic aesthetic, highlighting both good design and the property’s expansive mountain views. The hotel is located close to Hunter Mountain’s popular ski slopes, which are all visible from inside the cozy hotel.
The Lodge is three-stories and has 38 guests rooms. All of the interior furnishings and accents follow the same minimalist look featuring muted tones complimented with rich floor treatments.
The rooms are situated on the mountain side of the building and every unit has a balcony and view. The rooms’ floor plans vary in both size and layout including lofted beds, fireplaces, and peaked ceilings.
The Scribner’s Catskill Lodge was originally built in the 1960s as a motor lodge that allowed guests to drive through the center—at the time its defining feature. The previous drive-up access is now home to hotel’s main entrance. Through the main doors, the hotel reception area welcomes guests with a stone flagstone and skylight. The space also serves as a communal recreation area and is complete with mini-library, pool table, and fireside lounge.
A restaurant and bar can be found on the lower level, adorned with pale wood paneling that has been arranged in a decorative diagonal pattern and framed by black-stained wood planks. The room also has beautiful built-in booths all finished with the same dark tone. From the dining room guests have access to an expansive deck space offering the alternate side views of the valley.
In addition to the hotel’s interior amenities, guests can also toast marshmallows outside at the fire pit.
