The six-acre estate on the Greenwich, Connecticut, waterfront that was owned by former president Donald Trump and his late ex-wife Ivana in the 1980s is back on the market for $29.9 million, the Wall Street Journal reports. The home’s present owners, investment banker Robert Steinberg and his wife Suzanne, bought it for $15 million in 1998. The Georgian mansion at 21 Vista Drive, with sweeping views of Long Island Sound, has been on and off the market since 2009 when the Steinbergs listed it for $50 million; it was relisted for $54 million in 2014. As 6sqft previously reported, it has seen several price cuts since then, but no takers.

Though the Trumps gave the 20,000-square-foot home the gold-plated Trump treatment, the Steinbergs spent two years renovating, removing gilded finishes and adding an extension, an indoor lap pool, and two guest suites for friends and family. The 11-bedroom house also has staff quarters, a tennis court, a gym, and a movie theater. WSJ quotes Robert Steinberg: “I had priced it at a very high price initially with the concept that if someone really wants it, I guess I’ll sell it. But I mispriced it.”

The house was built in 1939, and its original bones and gracious proportions have been retained. As 6sqft previously reported, the mansion was originally built in 1939 for Robert Hillas, president of New York City’s Super Heater Company. The original home boasted central air conditioning and a bowling alley, and cost $200,000 to build (about $3.4 million today).

Beginning with a dramatic entryway from which twin curving stairways rise, nearly every room takes advantage of shoreline frontage with breathtaking water views.

Grand formal areas are made for lavish entertaining and coastal living. Recent renovations have made these spaces contemporary and uncluttered, so nothing detracts from the stunning views of the sea and sky.

Private family spaces range from grand to cozy. Gracious guest suites and generous staff accommodations offer space to create an all-season home, a lavish waterfront retreat, or a multi-generational family compound.

An addition, built in 2000, features an indoor lap pool, a great room with 20-foot-high beamed ceilings, and private guest quarters.

The well-tended grounds feature a tennis court, a putting green, a deep water dock, and a pool. The home is located within the exclusive, gated, Indian Harbor Association community. Since the property is made up of more than one lot, a buyer could redevelop the site into several waterfront homes.
