Forest Hills Gardens, a planned community in Queens that's known for its winding streets and Tudor architecture, is home to some of the most impressive freestanding homes in all of New York. Here's one at 63 Wendover Road -- it occupies a corner lot so it boasts plenty of lawn outside, as well as a long private driveway that leads to a two-car garage. From the interior, you have not one but two sun rooms to enjoy the view out onto the sprawling backyard. Suburban life in Queens doesn't sound so bad.

26-Foot Ceilings and Stained Glass at This Brooklyn Heights Church Turned Condo

If the idea of living in a former church intrigues you, there are plenty of options on the market. Just yesterday, 6sqft featured a $3 million Williamsburg condo with soaring cathedral ceilings. But the 26-foot ceilings at this $6,900/month Brooklyn Heights church turned condo are some of the most spectacular we've yet to see in the residential realm. Located at 99 Clinton Street in the old Presbyterian Church, the architecture is downright holy, with many of the 19th century cathedral details like stained glass windows incorporated into the interior. And the exterior still boasts its historic stone facade.

Rent Governor Cuomo’s Former Douglaston Manor for $6,000/Month

Last year, Governor Cuomo's former mansion in the suburban waterfront enclave of Douglaston, Queens hit the market looking like something straight out of the Great Gatsby. Cuomo lived in the sprawling home with his ex wife Kerry Kennedy, but sold it in 1993, when he joined the Clinton administration. It's a six-bedroom, Mediterranean-style manor that was constructed in the 1920s and was asking $2.7 million. In January, the home sold for a cool $2.4 million. And the new buyers have listed it for rent, asking $6,000 a month. In Manhattan, $6,000 a month could definitely get you a nice apartment, but it couldn't get you a mansion and outdoor space this impressive. It's enough to lure a person way out to Douglaston.

When this listing calls this condo "one of a kind," they aren't kidding: This apartment was carved from the former Pentecostal Church at 541 Leonard Street
 in Williamsburg. (These day's it's not at all uncommon for religious buildings to go residential.) The building holds three apartments total, all with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, boasting keyed elevator access, 20-foot wood-beamed ceilings and access to private outdoor space. Corner Loft in Former Downtown Brooklyn Toy Factory Isn’t Playing Around With $999K Ask

Here's a two-bedroom condo from the Toy Factory Lofts, the former home to Tudor Metal Products. From the 1920s to the 1980s, the company, known for designing the popular Depression-era toy Budget Bank and the board game Electric Football, occupied the factory. Tribeca Film Festival Co-Founders List Massive Dakota Spread for $39M

Some big-time New Yorkers are selling their big-time pad at The Dakota, the most iconic cooperative in the Upper West Side. Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, the couple that founded the Tribeca Film Festival with Robert De Niro, have just listed their sprawling five-bedroom apartment for no small sum—$39 million. The couple purchased the apartment more than 20 years ago, but announced their divorce in early 2014. Now, this very impressive home—actually an assemblage of four apartments covering over 7,500 square feet, with 165 feet of frontage along Central Park—is up for grabs.

Pre-War Apartment in One of Jackson Heights’ Prominent Courtyard Co-ops Asks $1.1M

Jackson Heights used to be one of the few New York neighborhoods left to buy a great co-op apartment for a good deal. The prewar cooperatives there are known for their private, interior courtyards, and this building -- The Towers, at 33-27 80th Street -- has one of the best, spanning almost an entire city block. But it looks like this neighborhood is a bargain no longer. A for sale by owner listing has hit the market for a seven-bedroom, four-bedroom apartment at The Towers asking $1.1 million. (It last sold in 2011 for $675,000.) It's a huge apartment, with 1,500 square feet, and loads of beautiful prewar details. And windows from the bedrooms and kitchen offer a view down to the courtyard below.

Inviting One Bedroom Hits the Market for $625K at Popular Park Slope Co-op

Man, there's been a lot of action recently at the Park Slope co-op building 404 3rd Street. Last summer, a Parisian-looking one bedroom went on the market for $575,000, selling in December for $660,000, nearly 15 percent above ask. Then in February, an architect listed the two-bedroom apartment she designed herself for $800,000. (It's still on the market for slightly less, $799,000.) This one bedroom is asking $625,000, which will be a potentially nice profit for the owner, who bought it only two years ago for $515,000. It's got some lovely details like moldings, inlaid floors, a painted brick wall, and a retro kitchen with open shelving and a funky built-in table attached to a mirrored column.

Police Building Penthouse Gets a $5 Million Price Cut With New Views of Its Secret Room

Remember that $40 million penthouse that occupies the cupola of 240 Centre Street, the 1909 Beaux Arts NYPD headquarters in Nolita? It's hard to forget a four-story, 6,000-square-foot apartment that comes with insane outdoor space (right outside the cupola!) and a secret room originally only accessible to clock mechanics. The Police Building was converted to condos in 1988 but this particular apartment, which both Calvin Klein and Steffi Graf have called home, was recently remodeled. The condo hit the market in November to quite a bit of fanfare, but apparently buyers aren't biting. Sotheby's has recently listed the penthouse for a $5 million discount -- a cool $35 million -- and also offers some new interior photos to obsess over.

$5M Home in Boerum Hill Combines Townhouse and Loft Aesthetics

This Boerum Hill townhouse at 243 Dean Street has gone through quite the renovation. A buyer purchased it in 2008 for $2.44 million and then made big changes to the five-story, single-family property, restoring some of the old details and adding lots of new perks in a complete gut renovation. Now it's outfitted with lots of wooden ceiling beams, huge skylights, exposed and painted brick walls and restored fireplaces and plasterwork. The listing even says that new walls, doors windows were fabricated on site. The result is something between a townhouse and a loft—perhaps it's got the best of both worlds. And it's now on the market for a good deal more than $2.44 million, asking nearly $5 million.

This prewar duplex penthouse comes from the Greenwich Village co-op at 49 West 9th Street, quite a beautiful brick and limestone building equidistance from Washington Square Park and Union Square. The $2.75 million apartment is around 1,000 square feet over two floors, with one bedroom and two bathrooms. It's also brimming with wood detailing and decked out with lots of private outdoor space -- home to both an outdoor shower and yes, a bathtub. If you're a fan of elegant, classic New York co-ops (that happen not to be in the Upper West or Upper East Sides) this one will make your day.

Cottage-Like Duplex is up for Sale at the Muffin House in Chelsea

337 West 20th Street is not your average cooperative -- this Chelsea building was formerly the bakery of Samuel Bath Thomas, the Englishman who introduced New Yorkers to the English Muffin in the early 1900s. Today it's nicknamed the Muffin House and still has ovens (no longer working) built into the basement. You can now live in a cute little duplex at the co-op, which went residential sometime in the 1950s, for $875,000. While there's nothing inside the apartment to suggest this was a former muffin factory, there are still some old details intact.

Here's a proposal only for true loft lovers: two fifth-floor apartments are on the market at 81 Grand Street, a former warehouse in Soho, and they come in a package in which you can combine them for a massive, single loft. If combined, it'll leave you with 45 feet of frontage facing Grand Street, a total of 14 windows and four skylights, 3,300 interior square feet and 600 exterior square feet. And you'd be working with great bones; while most downtown lofts have some cool historic details left from when the building was a warehouse, this one boasts detailed brickwork, as well as remnants of the building's old wheels and shoots system, typically used for transporting things. We're jealous of the architect who will get the job of creating a full-floor penthouse here.

Architect/Owner of This $800K Park Slope Co-op Gut Renovated it Herself

It's hard to go wrong with an apartment that's been carefully renovated by its owner, who also happens to be an architect. That's the case at 404 3rd Street, where a two-bedroom Park Slope co-op has just hit the market for $799,000. The owner, Joana Pacheco, is not only an architect but the founder of Paperhouse, an open source architecture platform. She gut renovated the interior, opening up and brightening the space. She had good bones to work with, as the apartment retains big bay windows and its historic moldings, as well as a good location, just a few blocks from Prospect Park.

Stained Glass and Pitched Ceilings at This $2.8M Freestanding Victorian in Ditmas Park

This week, 6sqft is digging the freestanding Victorians that make up the Brooklyn neighborhood of Ditmas Park. Who wouldn't, considering how charming the historic homes are, with front porches, lawns and plenty of luxurious space? This Victorian is located at 112 Marlborough Road, within the Prospect Park South enclave of the neighborhood. (It's a historic district that was developed in 1899 by developer Dean Alvord, who purchased 60 acres of farmland to build rus in urbe, "the country in the city.")
