The sprawling countryside estate of celebrity wedding planner David Tutera is on the market for $1,450,000. Located at 176 Tater Hill Road in the Connecticut town of East Haddam, the property contains four separate buildings, including a renovated main residence originally constructed in the 19th century. With a guest home, three-car garage with a loft, and a one-room schoolhouse surrounded by nine acres of land, the next owner has plenty of opportunities to turn the grounds into a dream residence.
Tutera, a bridal guru whose client list includes everyone from Elton John to Lil’Kim, bought the site in 2003, according to property records. Located in Middlesex County, East Haddam sits in the middle of New York City and Boston, with a trip to either city taking a roughly two-hour drive.
Upon entering the main residence, an impressive foyer with soaring ceilings, artwork, and a chandelier greets you. On one side of the stairway, there’s a sitting room with a piano and fireplace and on the other, there’s a cozy living room with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.
The gourmet kitchen stands out, thanks to its attractive copper ceiling and green tiled floor. The farmhouse sink, white cabinets, and overall efficient design give off a country vibe. In addition to a sun-drenched breakfast nook, there’s a formal dining room with a fireplace next door.
Toward the rear of the home is an amazing post and beam great room, providing a rustic place to entertain and relax. As seen in nearly every room, there’s also a sparkly chandelier hanging above the dining area.
There are two bedrooms in the main home, both of which feature unique vaulted ceilings and dark hardwood flooring. Other living quarters can be found in a recently renovated guest home, which has four bedrooms and two full baths. It also has a front porch and upper deck that overlooks the lush landscape around the property.
The three-car garage has a fully outfitted gym and extra loft space that could become a studio or office. The one-room schoolhouse “is perfect for an elaborate potting shed or even for cocktails and appetizers while hosting an outdoor gathering,” as the listing describes.
