At a brand new condominium in the Greenwich Village, Cronuts will be one of its selling points. Dominique Ansel, inventor of the iconic pastry, will operate a 2,000-square-foot bakery at 64 University Place, an under-construction 28-unit residential tower designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox. The new bakery will be the third Dominique Ansel location in Manhattan.

The bakery signed a 15-year lease for the grade-level retail space of the property, according to developers Argo Real Estate and Bsafal, Inc.

“Dominique Ansel is an excellent retail tenant for 64 University Place and a great addition to the neighborhood,” Mark Moskowitz, President & CE0 of Argo Real Estate, said in a press release.

“The brand has both a brick-and-mortar following and an extensive online delivery operation, so it has universal appeal.”

The 11-story condo project at 64 University Place features a red brick facade, arched windows, and tiered gardens. The development, which will likely open in the second half of this year, sold all 28 apartments without listing them publicly and at “above market prices,” according to the developers.

At its Soho location in 2013, Dominique Ansel introduced New York City and the world to the Cronut, a croissant-donut hybrid that became the “first viral pastry,” as the bakery describes, and which takes three days to make. The pastry’s popularity has persisted ever since and the bakery opened the Dominique Ansel Workshop in Flatiron in 2021.

“We are delighted that Dominique Ansel chose 64 University Place for its newest location,” Ameesh Argawal, President, Bsafal, Inc., said in a press release.

“It is amazing to have a development project of this stature come together so quickly on so many levels, with enthusiastic buyers and now an acclaimed pastry chef!”
