Derek Jeter lists lakefront ‘castle’ with four kitchens and a Statue of Liberty replica for $15M
While owning a waterfront castle might seem presumptuous even for the former Yankee captain and current Miami Marlins owner, this 50,000-square-foot upstate compound on four acres at 14 Lake Shore Road in Greenwood Lake, NY, was more than just a random luxury buy. Tiedemann Castle, as it is known, has a family history for Jeter: According to the New York Post, his grandfather Sonny Connors, adopted son of John and Julia Tiedemann, who purchased it in 1952, was raised on the property. Jeter bought the estate 15 years ago for $425,000, so even after being “lovingly restored, with unparalleled attention to detail,” the current $14.75 million price tag is a hefty hike.
Situated on 700 feet of shoreline, this sprawling property includes a 12,000 square-foot main house on 4 acres. Through the entry gate is a 6-foot stone wall. As if this property weren’t unique enough, a replica of the Statue of Liberty lights the way beneath a stand of trees.
Since the Yankee shortstop bought the castle, a 15-year restoration has been underway. The home’s many amazing details have been brought to their former glory–or better.
The estate is comprised of two parcels on which you’ll find the main house, a guest house, a pool house, an infinity pool, verdant gardens, a lagoon and a boathouse.
In addition to every amenity you could imagine, the house boasts an elevator, four indoor chef’s kitchens and an outdoor kitchen with a wood-burning fireplace.
Up a set of turret stairs accessing the roof and a separate “widow’s walk” you can get a stunning eyeful of lake views from a bedroom terrace.
Between the pool house, patio space, game room and great room, there’s obviously plenty of room to entertain the whole team, fans included. For peace and quiet, there are lots of cozy den spaces, quiet garden paths and patios perfect for thought-collecting.
