Open House New York Weekend is here: Get behind-the-scenes tours of 350 NYC sites

It's Christmas in October for fans of architecture and design. In addition to the monthlong Archtober festival, Open House New York Weekend takes place this month. The annual five-borough event offers free behind-the-scenes tours of New York City spaces, unlocking sites that are often off-limits to the public. Hosted over three days from October 20 through October 22, this year's OHNY Weekend line-up is the largest ever, with nearly 350 insider tours of cultural spaces like the new Perelman Performing Arts Center, iconic institutions like the United Nations headquarters, historic homes of Greenwich Village, and so much more.

Open House New York Weekend is back for its 16th year from Friday, October 12th through Sunday the 13th, with an impressive roster of tours, events, and access to typically off-limits sites. Yesterday, reservations went live for the 123 reservation-only sites, but there are also close to 150 open-access sites, including the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn, and several architecture offices. And while these open-access sites don't require reservations, the lines can build up. Schedule for 2018 Open House New York sites and events is now live

Last week brought a sneak preview of the 16th annual Open House New York; the schedule for tours, events, and access to typically off-limits sites has been released. OHNY is happening on Friday, October 12, Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14. Highlights include recently-opened sites like 3 World Trade Center, Domino Park and Pier 17, construction previews of 150 Rivington and Hauser & Wirth Gallery West 22nd Street and specially curated series like Works by Women, MAS 125, Factory Fridays and Open Studios. There's also an event guide, interactive map showing where ("open access" only) sites and events are located throughout the five boroughs and an itinerary planner.

First look at the 2017 Open House New York sites!

If you love architecture and urban design from historic to contemporary, there has never been a better time to join Open House New York for a rare weekend of access to typically off limits sites. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, this year’s OHNY will take place on Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15, opening up more than 200 buildings and projects across the five boroughs for tours and talks with architects, urban planners, preservationists, and city leaders. OHNY has just released a sneak preview of the program, which includes a tour of SHoP Architects' American Copper Buildings and their iconic skybridge, a peek inside the artifacts and archival gems at the New York Transit Museum Archives, the Bridge at Cornell Tech at the university's new Roosevelt Island Campus, and the new global headquarters of West Elm.

Your First Look at 2016’s Open House New York Sites!

Here's a sneak peek at the more than 250 sites that have made it onto 2016's highly anticipated Open House New York Weekend (OHNY), a two-day festival where usually off limits buildings across the city's five boroughs open their doors to the public for tours, talks, and exploration. Now in its 14th year, OHNY has brought back a number of beloved locales to their roster, including the NY State Pavilion, the Brooklyn Army Terminal, City Hall and Google; they've also rounded up a number of brand-new spaces like the Metropolitan Opera House and the West Village's Westbeth Artists House. The full list won't be released for another few weeks, but we've got some of the highlights ahead.

Art Nerd New York’s Top Event Picks for the Week,10/5-10/21

This weekend is the end-all be-all for architecture mavens in New York—the annual Open House New York weekend! SO many amazing architectural icons are open and waiting for you to explore them, before they close their doors to the general public for another year. The weekend also brings a not-to-miss exhibition, "Calm Before the Storm," with new works by Logan Hicks and Beau Stanton. Yes, this is curated by yours truly and Natalie Kates, and it's guaranteed to be an epic marine-themed show, complete with a giant shipwreck in the gallery. The intelligent concept store Chamber NYC has its second collection in play with earth-inspired art and design objects curated by Andrew Zuckerman. The Lowline, that underground park we hope comes to fruition, is hosting an open house to check out the techie gadgets they're working on to make it a reality. Detroit print mavens 1xRun are taking over Joseph Gross Gallery, and Greenpoint Gallery is letting the people decide. FIT is hosting a two-day symposium on everything Susanne Bartsch, and lastly, Ad Hoc Gallery will be resurrected for the 6th annual Welling Court Mural Fest.
